On the evening of 7th December we held our Christmas meeting at Privett Village Hall. Our speaker was Maggie Haynes, who is CEO of Tuppenny Barn, near Emsworth. Tuppenny Barn is a charity providing gardening knowledge and education to disadvantaged people and schoolchildren and has an extensive garden growing vegetables and flowers, an education centre and a shop where you can purchase their produce. After Maggie’s talk we served mulled wine and mince pies to our members, and Elizabeth, our Chair, wished everyone a happy Christmas and a successful New Year in their garden!

As the evenings in January can be cold and wet, our meeting for next month will be via Zoom so you can all watch our talk from the comfort of your own homes! We are very lucky to have Arthur Cole, the Head of Programmes at ‘The Newt’, which is a destination hotel with beautiful, historical gardens in Somerset talking to us this month and the title is ‘The Newt, a journey spanning three centuries’. The owners of The Newt have sponsored the Chelsea Flower Show for a number of years. Members will receive an email with the link to Zoom. Non members, who would like view this talk should contact Pippa Chapman at pjmchapman@yahoo.co.uk to receive the link for which there will be a nomimal charge of £3.
