Summer Show 2026
Froxfield and Privett Garden Club held its recent Summer Show at Froxfield Village Hall on 15th August. Despite the high temperatures and the lack of rain over the past few months there was a wide range fruit, vegetables and flowers, although unsurprisingly the total number of entries was significantly less than last year; it was only slightly below that for 2023 and 2024.
The most popular classes were for Annuals and a single Dahlia. In the vegetables the small tomato class was the most popular.
Many visitors (including local councillor Nick Drew who regularly supports our events) joined us to enjoy tea and cake whilst viewing the exhibits.
Chairman Elizabeth Houghton-Connell welcomed everyone and gave a resume of the club’s activities over the past few months. She complimented exhibitors on how well they have coped with the very difficult growing conditions.
This year the Banksian Medal for the most points over both our Spring and Summer Shows was won by Christine Stephens for the first time because of her wide range of entries in both shows.
The flower arrangement classes provided a variety of entries. The large arrangements on the theme of Summer Afternoon were the dominant feature of the end wall of the hall. The trophy for the best arrangement in the show went to Jan Cole for her arrangement in this class.
This year Froxfield Primary School celebrated its 150th Anniversary. The pictures by the children on the theme of Your School showed many of the features of the school not only its buildings but also the large tree and the hopscotch in the playground.
Elizabeth Houghton Connell closed the event by thanking the committee for their hard work in setting up the show and the exhibitors for producing the entries.
