Spring Show 2025
Once again the gardeners of Froxfield and Privett rose to the challenge to provide a wide range of colourful entries for their annual Spring Show at Privett Village Hall on Saturday 29th March. The hall was full of colour and scent. It looked splendid with the bright sunshine streaming in.
Show secretary Christine Stephens congratulated members on the number and quality of the entries, which had generated positive comments from the independent judges.
There was a significant increase in the number of entries in both the daffodil classes and the other horticultural classes. The classes for a single daffodil, other bulbs and hellebores, being particularly popular.
It was very pleasing to see that a number of our new members had exhibited and appeared on the list of prize winners.
The Graham-Clarke Plate for the best daffodil exhibit went to Mary Hansford for her trio of large cup bi-colour daffodils, whilst the Privett Flower Show Challenge Cup was won by Marion Gimson for her floating hellebores.
Competition was keen between the gardeners for the Wendy Lees Memorial Trophy given to the person who achieved the most points across the horticultural classes. Lorna Smallbone won this trophy by just one point.
The flower arranging classes were beautiful and very well supported. The cookery classes were also well supported with the carrot cake class attracting the most comments
The children from Froxfield Pre-School drew Self Portraits with some interesting interpretations, whilst those from the Privett Nursery School made their Spring Flowers from recycled materials.
Pictures of UK native wild animals provided a colourful display from the children from Froxfield Primary School. There were a variety of techniques on display from paintings and drawings to collages, with many pictures using a mixture of media.
The afternoon was well supported by members, friends and visitors who joined us for tea and cake whilst looking at the lovely exhibits.
