Our new year commenced on Tuesday 13th October when we held our AGM at Privett Village Hall following a very good year for the Garden Club during the 2025/6 season. We had some changes to the Committee to vote upon, as Elizabeth Houghton-Connell, our Chairman was stepping down after a very successful few years of running the Club Teresa Brown, our Treasurer, and Marion Gimson and Tidda Dobbs, who were long standing Committee members, were also stepping down. They will all be sadly missed. However, we warmly welcomed Shuna Mackillop-Hall as our new Chairman, Francesca Viggiani as our newTreasurer and Tricia Ross as a new Committee member.
After the AGM we had a very interesting talk from Kevin Hobbs, who was speaking about ‘The Story of Trees and how they changed the way we live’. Kevin has over thirty years experience in horticulture and provided a fascinating insight into their origins and how trees have reacted to the changes in climate and the impact of the demands of our society and diseases has had on certain species.
Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 11th November at Froxfield Village Hall at 7.30pm. The speaker for the evening is Andrew Hunt, who is Head Gardener at Kingston Lacy, the National Trust property in Dorset, which is home to a beautiful garden where Snowdrops are a particular speciality. We are looking forward to his presentation and hope to see you there.
