Latest News - November 2025

We held our AGM and first meeting of the new season at Privett Village Hall on Tuesday 7 October 2025. The Garden Club business of the AGM was swiftly concluded giving us plenty of time to enjoy our speaker for the evening, Marina Christopher. Marina, once again shared her expertise as a plants woman and biologist and spoke to us about ‘Thugs and wimps in the naturalistic garden’. Marina gave us an excellent live presentation and also brought some lovely plants and sundries for sale.

A polite reminder that subscriptions for 2025-2026 are now due @ £10 for the current year. Membership includes seven meetings with excellent speakers & two Shows per year. We also hold an annual Open Garden and organise two visits to gardens of interest (cost of visits as advertised). Non-members are very welcome at any event @ £3 per meeting.

Autumn brings us a timely reminder that our Spring Show takes place on Saturday 28 March 2026 and gives you the opportunity to enter five miniature daffodils in a 15cm (6 inch) pot. We recommend planting several pots at weekly or fortnightly intervals to increase your chances of having one of them in flower for the show. Also, advance notice that the Photography classes for the Spring Show are 1) ‘Misty Morning’ and 2) ‘Climbing and Twining’.   Get snapping and capture some interesting images! At our recent committee meeting we decided to broaden the cookery class for Sloe Gin to include any Fruit Liqueur.  So please look out for other fruits (in addition to sloes) that you can turn into a liqueur over the next few months.

Our next meeting is at Froxfield Village hall on Wednesday 12 November @ 7.30pm – talk by Roger Hirons, The Plant Doctor who will be speaking about ‘The winter garden & putting the garden to bed’.
