Latest News - March 2026

At our recent meeting at Froxfield Village Hall, Steve Oakes gave us an excellent talk about “Birds in your garden”.  The meeting was very well attended, even though it was a horrible rainy night!  Steve has been connected with the RSPB for many years and is an expert in his field and we all picked up useful knowledge about our usual garden birds, and he had plenty of photographs of birds that are more unusual, and perhaps ones we would not recognise.  He gave us some tips on how to care for birds in our garden eg who would know that you should clean out and refresh the water in our birdbaths every day?

We have two major events coming up in March. On Wednesday 18th March Rosy Hardy is coming to talk to us on “Using herbaceous perennials in mixed borders” at Froxfield Village Hall at 7.30pm. Rosy is a very famous plant expert and multi RHS Chelsea Gold Medal winner and we are very lucky to have her speaking to us again.

On Saturday 28th March we have our wonderful Spring Show which is always such a lovely event at Privett Village Hall with the beautiful displays of daffodils and spring flowers. Please put the date in your diary and perhaps think about putting an entry (or two!) in the Show?  We have classes for spring flowers, flower arranging, photography, cookery and even eggs, which is very topical with Easter around the corner.  The local schools will be entering the children’s classes and any child from Froxfield and Privett, who may not attend one of the schools in the Parish, is encouraged to enter.  We also have a new Novice flower arranging class this Spring which is open to anyone who has not previously won first prize in a flower arranging class at one of our Shows.  Show Schedules are available at Froxfield Stores, Budgens at the Meon Hut or any committee member. Why not give it a go?

We look forward to seeing you all at the Spring Show at 2pm on Saturday 28th March at Privett Village Hall.  We will have a Plant Stall and delicious tea and cake for sale.
