Lordington House is a manor house near Walderton in West Sussex. It was built around 1500 upon a gentle rise and facing southeast over the Ems Valley, it is set just above the fish pond (an enlarged part of the River Ems) and the brick and flint watermill. It is surrounded by a lovingly tended walled garden which is especially radiant during the spring and summer months. Hedge and lawns reside to the rear, where the long border of shrubs, lilies and anemones line its boundaries, interesting trees including black mulburry and paperback maple add to its lovely vistas. It was bought by Sir Geoffrey Pole in the 16th century and his relation, Margaret Pole, who was beheaded by Henry VIII, is said to haunt the bowling green on midsummer’s nights! It is now owned by Sir Michael Hamilton and his wife, Audrey, who run a B+B using home grown fruit, herbs and eggs.
The cost per person is £10 to include wine, soft drinks and nibbles.
